A missing woman. A sinister secret on the Rock.
From the director of cult independent film Day 66 and short film Cuckoo, Disappearance at the Rock follows a private investigator searching for clues about the disappearance of Jessica Ludgeway. Set against the unmistakable landscape of Gibraltar, this found-footage horror short asks what secrets the Rock might be hiding.
Filmed on location in Gibraltar in April 2024, the Tribey Media production took a strikingly spontaneous approach. There was almost no script. Instead, the actors received direction at the beginning of each scene and improvised their performances. According to the team, around 99% of what appears on screen was unscripted — allowing conversations, reactions and discoveries to unfold naturally in front of the camera.
Behind the scenes in Gibraltar
Rogue Terrapin worked with Tribey Media on physical filming, location scouting, casting, logistics, direction and production. With the setting so integral to the mystery, choosing and working with locations around Gibraltar formed an important part of bringing the story to the screen.
Even the crew's refreshments became part of the production story. Mr Noodles, a local food establishment in Gibraltar, kept the team energised during filming and received a mention in the credits. It's the sort of small, distinctly local contribution that makes independent filmmaking memorable.
Horror-on-Sea 2025
Disappearance at the Rock screened at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival in Southend-on-Sea, UK, on . The festival screening brought the film's improvised Gibraltar mystery to an audience of independent horror enthusiasts.
Rogue Terrapin is pleased to have played a part in making this Tribey Media production happen, from practical work on location to the creative decisions behind the camera.
